Why My Grandma Is The Best

My grandma is the best. I know most everyone says that, but I’m gonna prove it.

Every few months, I get a letter from my grandma. Without fail, they are the highlight of my day. All the news. Fragmented sentences. Scribbles and jots on every available space. Who did what to whom and – most importantly – who died.

I got a letter today. Here’s an excerpt:

We have a “peculiar” mouse problem in the basement. Caught 3 in traps – now they wander out in middle of floor and act drunk and hardly move. So use hammer on them – either a disease or else something poisoning them! Hope not hazardous to humans! Killed one bat and still have one down there.

Isn’t she awesome?! I can just picture my grandfolks going downstairs – morning coffee in one hand and hammer in the other. The paragraph before was about the hail storm that flattened fields, and the paragraph after was about a family friend who is driving to Washington to visit family.

Now, I know I can’t be the only one with proof. Why is your grandma the best?

Comments

  1. How did she kill a bat?

  2. My grandmother does the same thing, however mine writes me quite often. Since I’m in Kentucky and she’s in Pennsylvania we don’t see each other as much as we’d like. Instead we write letters, send cards, news clippings, and photos back and forth to each other. It’s a great way to keep in touch and like you, reading one of Grandma’s letters usually provides for some good humor and highlights my day too! 🙂

    • I drop the ball on writing. I had a goal this year of writing her a letter once a month. I think I’ve only written one. But you’ve inspired me! Glad I’m not the only one who adores letters from grandma!

  3. Now you’ve both inspired me. I can’t wait to go home and write a letter to my grandma tonight!
PS – Erica, your granny sounds hilarious. I love it!
